Anne Roe — was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Upon graduating from the University of Denver, she attended Columbia University, following the recommendation of Thomas Garth. Roe classified parent-child interaction patterns into three categories, each with two subcategories: 1 emotional concentration on the child, further classified as being overprotective or overdemanding, 2 avoidance of the child, further classified as emotional rejection or neglect, and 3 acceptance of the child, further classified as casual or loving. Out of parent-child interactions, Roe thought that children went on to develop an orientation either toward or not toward people. Roe was dissatisfied with existing classification systems for occupations, including the benchmark Dictionary of Occupational Titles. In order to compare the individual to a full spectrum of occupations, Roe set out to develop a comprehensive classification system that would allow her to engage her inquiry. The result was a two-dimensional, eight by six classification system with eight categories of occupations service, business contact, organization, technology, outdoor, science, general culture, and arts and entertainment and six levels professional and managerial, levels 1 and 2; semiprofessional and small business, level 3; skilled, level 4; semiskilled, level 5; and unskilled, level 6 within each category.

The theory of vocational choice developed by John L. Holland is one of the most widely researched and applied theories of career development. Based on the premise that personality factors underlie career choices, his theory postulates that people project self-and world-of-work views onto occupational titles and make career decisions that satisfy their preferred personal orientations. The theory incorporates several constructs from personality psychology, vocational behavior, and social psychology, including self-perception theory and social stereotyping. The theory predicts that the higher the degree of congruence between individual and occupational characteristics, the better the potential for positive career-related outcomes, including satisfaction, persistence, and achievement. Seven assumptions underlie the typology:. Print, computer, and Internet-based sources are available to facilitate this latter process.

The relationship between personality, career decision-making and career expectations among Malawi undergraduate students has never been studied, and the shortage of students becomes a serious problem in facing the education system of this southeastern African nation. A cross-sectional was methodologically designed with randomly selected Malawian undergraduate students from the 3 large-scale universities. Mean score differences were analyzed by gender and major comparison. Then, the career expectation model was tested. The results showed that students with science major showed higher score significantly in competition, freedom, management, learning and entrepreneurship in career expectation than those from humanities. The findings offer implications regarding how conscientiousness and openness enhance career expectation through decision-making.
